Origin – Great homes, positive people and strong communities
An inspiring past and a bright future
A home is the essential foundation for a good quality of life, so what we do every day really matters to the wellbeing of our communities. Here at Origin, we trace our roots back 100 years, building and managing high quality homes as well as providing support services and housing for those who are most vulnerable in London and Hertfordshire. We work to provide safe, decent affordable homes and support for individuals and communities.
Focused on our residents, our driving ambition is to provide services that make people’s lives easier, and homes and communities they can be proud to live in. We are ‘not for profit’ and reinvest all our surpluses back into our varied and vibrant neighbourhoods.
The role – Mental Health Coordinator
As Mental Health Coordinator you will focus on promoting recovery by providing thorough assessments and a suite of support. You are proactive with assessing referrals into and out of the service and can provide intensive mental health support. You are eager to develop your knowledge of local resources available to the residents. You can positively create mutually beneficial relationships with local authorities, other health and advice centres and voluntary and community organisations. This is a great opportunity for applicants to grow their skill base, and career, with a reputable provider of housing and support services. This role calls for a high degree of initiative, judgement, accuracy, professional curiosity and confidentiality. You are able to plan and prioritise work and adapt to change when necessary. Origin will help you develop a wide range of skills as we are a supportive team who values your professional development.
What you’ll do
This is a rewarding position – responsible for building relationships and trust with the people we support who have mental health support needs. Our service users are very independent, and your duties are varied, and no two days will be the same. At a glance you will:
- Promote choice, independence, integration within the local community and development of skills.
- Support our service users as individuals to achieve their personal goals helping them to take part in a wide range of interests and activities such as shopping trips, arts and crafts and days out.
- provide support to service users to make and attend appointments where necessary.
- keep up to date with all admin work including emails, reviews and support plans.
- work with colleagues, families (where applicable) and other professionals for the benefit of the service users.
You’ll do 5 shifts a week (37 hours) Monday to Friday 9am-5pm with some flexibility expected to accommodate the needs of the service users on your caseload.
What you’ll need
We’re looking for a committed and motivated staff member to work across our care and support services in North London and Watford areas, to deliver support to service users with mental health support needs.
You will need to demonstrate the ability to:
- work in a small team and on your own.
- support our service users to develop and learn which requires a creative and practical approach.
- be confident with getting to know the service users and their families and the network of professionals that we liaise with.
- be a confident communicator across all channels but, specifically, you’ll need to be able to write concise and accurate daily notes.
Above all your life experiences and use of initiative are qualities we need. You don’t need to be able to drive and we'll cover your travel expenses on public transport whilst visiting our service users.
