Frequently asked questions
-
We hope you'll find everything you need on our careers pages however, if you have any questions please contact our friendly Talent Team at recruitment@originhousing.org.uk
-
We're keen to find out more about you so please include an up to date cv and a covering letter which outlines how you can meet the requirements of the job description for the role.
It is also great if you can please tell us about what interests you in the role and why you would like to apply to Origin Housing.
For many of our roles, values are more important to us and this really comes across in the cover letter. Research shows that some people are less likely to apply for a role unless they are 100% qualified. We can reassure you that your experience, skills and passion will set you apart so tell us about your achievements, irrespective of whether they are personal or work-related, tell us about your journey, and about what you learnt.
-
We'll keep you informed on how your application is progressing and will let you know we've received your interest in the role. We'll keep you in the loop when we're shortlisting you and our Talent Team may contact you to find out more about you before passing your application through to our Hiring Managers.
We will let you know the outcome of your application and move you to the next stage or let you know if you've been unsuccessful
-
Our values are really important to us and for lots of our roles we like to find out more about you than what's on your cv or covering letter. We'll therefore invite you to undertake our Big 5 Assessment which will look at your;
- Cognitive Ability (general reasoning)
- Personality
- Attitude
There are no right or wrong answers to the questions but we will use the results of this to add to your application.
Depending on the role, we will then invite you to a video interview using Microsoft Teams prior to a face to face interview with our Hiring Managers. For some roles you may go straight to face to face interview, you may meet with our residents or our service users as we're keen to involve them in our selection processes.
-
We aim to get back to you within 5 working days of your interview with the outcome
-
We'll confirm in writing that you have been offered the role and will outline the agreed salary. We will then ask you commence our new starter checks which will include:
- Right to work check
- References for the last two years of employment
- DBS if relevant to the role
- Occupational Health Questionnaire so that we can make reasonable adjustments before you join if needed
- Declaration of interest
Once these have all been approved and received, we will then agree a start date with you.
-
Currently around 33% of our vacancies are filled by internal staff, which covers both promotions and transfers. All our vacancies are available to current staff members, and we will actively support you to learn and develop.
-
For most of our roles you don't need a drivers licence. Our offices and schemes have great public transport links so are easy to get to without a car.
For roles that do require a drivers licence we will undertake a driver check as part of the recruitment process and you will be eligible for an essential car user additional payment in your monthly salary.

In April 2024, Origin became part of Places for People, helping us further our ambition to provide services that make life easier and create homes and communities residents are proud of. Currently, our job opportunities are listed on two separate platforms — Origin Housing roles (based in London and Hertfordshire) are on one site, while our nationally-based Places for People roles are on another.
Over the next few months, we'll be working to bring all job opportunities together in one place. In the meantime, you can explore roles by clicking the links below:
